I recently was asked to build an Elcon Cleon for DDM so they could display it at the RCX Expo. I wasn’t about to say no to an opportunity to build a Cleon. Looking back maybe I should have because I ended up buying it. It is a beautiful buggy and extremely well designed. I would like to find out if there are any other air filters available for it and was hoping either Selwa, Zip, or CB would be able to help me out here. The stock air filter seems to be fine for racing on a groomed track, but for dusty conditions it doesn’t seem like it’s not going to last long. I tired the UNI filter form DDM but it is a little too big. If anybody knows about any other filter options please feel free to share.

damn ma you got a nice looking car there!
about those air filters. you areabsolutly right.
i took my car out for a spinn in a asnd pit and ended up with sand from the carsbs troat all the way trouvgt to the exhaust port. when i cleaned the exhuastpipe it was sand there too. it´s no doubt whee the sand got in. ist trough the filter.
so what to do? internett thats a fien recorse to good things.
i started to examine all the web shops i know of and looked at every air filter i could find. nad there i was. www.pitstop-shop.nl makes som great filters
ordere 2 sets( i would have linked to them but theier web shop does not have that possibility) i ordered TPS filters that are 70mm i diameter an 100mm long from the rubber neck to the end og the foam this are 2 stage filters made of 2 layers of foam. in adfition to that there is an outerwear in the package to. is ditched the originale adapter and mounted the new one that followed the TPOS filter and i hav egood clarance too the diff and every thing else. the filter poke sout from the rear shock towerr but i dont think that will be a problem since the TPS filters have twice the area of the original filter.

Thanks Mradlin, I only wish I could take credit for the paint job. The body was painted by Craftwerks-RC and I think they did an excellent job.
Crazy Beetle, thanks for the info. I have to say those filters aren’t cheap, but I guess rebuilding or replacing an engine isn't either. You will have to let me know your thoughts on the TPS filter once you run it. Do you have any pics of the filter installed on your Cleon?
Just to clarify, this is the filter you are referring to?

Yes there's few filter option since there is little clearance. I'm glad you were able to buy it. After the build it's hard not to have it isn't it.

i hope ot get the last parts for my engien thies week. i am currently waiting for some Viton Crank case seals.
i will post up som pictures as soon as i have mounted the engien in the vcar, i have used at stock 26cc engine as a mock up just to test fitt the filter. end i pokes about 1,5-2 cm out og the rear shock tower.
they are nok Cheapo but they work great. i hade the same type of filter on my late FG Marder and i NEVER had anny problems with those filters.

if you think of witch part si use for my engine i can tell you that.
it´s a 2 bolt crank case that´s been ported and matched to the sylinder.
Team Fast Eddy Cerramic bearings is instaled. Modelsport Viton crank case seals are on the way from Germany. i have mounted a 2 mm stroker crank this time 8 the stock cranks bearings is not that good after all the sand)
the piston is ligtened and skirted for better flow and less strain on the rod.
the cylinder is somthing i hav eporoited my self. i lowered the flor in the intake port to alter its timing the transfer ports is widened and lifted a bitt and the rear port is reshape for better flow and hoåpuly i will help scavenging.
the exhaust port has been widened and lifted.
i sused one 1 mm copper gasket an one 0,15mm copper gasket to get the right squish clerance.
i have mounted a tunign insualtor from Lauther backer thats is proxomatly 10mm longer than teh stock part. i have made a heat shield that is monyted between the insukator and the cylinder. i hop this will help cooling the cylinder and keep the heat away from the intake. i have also made a heat shield that is mounted on the exhaust side to keep the radiant heat from the exhhaust header away from the cylinder.
the wexhaust header is shortene 15 mm to get som more RPM on topp.
i hop this will be anexsplosiv kombo that will blw the doors of most of the other guys cars

Crazy Beetle how is the engine re-build coming, have you been able to try out the new filter yet? If you have some pics of the new filter installed I would love to see them.:)

i Haven't had the time to test it yet.
gt the missing Piston yesterday and have assembled the engine today.
Now i am Trying out some combinations to fit the filter. so far i have used the original Cleon air filter adapter and the original Velocity stack.
the stack is now mounted upside down and i have used a FG filter spacer between the carb and the filter adapter. so far this seems to be the best solution.
ordered a sett of 10mm shock tower extension just to give the filter that extra little clearance.
up on all this i am in the middle of moving. i have sold my apartment and signed a contract on a NEW house today. but the House is not built yet so for the next 6-7 month i will be living in a Cabin along side one of Norways biggest lakes.
i hope to get some gas trough the engine when i am not out fishing. the lake have 25 species of Fish and i have so far Caught 7 of those species so you can say i have a lot of fishing to do this summer.
this Weekend and all of next week will be used to Move all my furniture and the stuff i don't need to a storage.
will get back as soon as i have tested the car.

A cabin on a lake, that sounds like a nice place to be waiting for your house to be built. And to top it off it sounds like you have some excellent fishing to go with it, you’re a luck man. Good luck on the move and I eagerly await your test results.

I have used the standard cleon air filter with an rn tuning pre filter bag on my cleon for the last couple of years with no problems, As long as the foam filter is oiled correctly with the correct foam air filter oil then you should not have a problem.
Also the standard cleon air filter is from rn tuning with is a "twin air" filter which i believe is the same as the pitstop tuning air filters
Using the correct foam air filter oil is a must though.

I agree! You need foam filter spary oil. PJ is a good brand they use on motorcycles. DDM carries it and it's nice and tacky.

wow! sweet buggy!!!!
Whats the name of the lake that your house is getting build. Family of my moved from the Netherlands to Norway this summer. The moved to the Nord Fjord to a place called Davik. Looks very nice there to do some RC ice speedway! Perhaps i'am taking my Gasdevil on a holyday trip next year. (If i got permission!) Probably not!
