Well I'm finally here! For those who don't know I have the 2nd Cleon that came into North America however I opted for the airbrakes. Once the snow clears I'll enjoy it with the 30.5ESP in it. :D:D

Welcome to the forum selwa. All I know is you and ak zip have one. Post up so we can see pics of it. Also do a Intro on yourself and add yourself to the world members map. If I remember correctly cyclops and toez71 are around your area.

Welcome to the forum Joe,
That's a beautiful Elcon Cleon!! How long did it take to assemble?

Thanks, I think it took about 2 days to do it. I wasn't working so I had lots of time to do it.
One of the best models to build and eventhough I only had it out for a few minutes before the snowfalls it felt great.

Thanks! The paint is Tamiya Gun Metal # PS-23. The black is a special cob web spray paint I bought over 10 years ago! I also had a Fg Leopard that I miss.

Just had it out for a few quick runs while my daughter filmed. had more vid but she must have erased them since she's only 6. When I did drive it, it felt very smooth and had sharp steering. i wanted to go out today with it but now we have a few inches of snow again.
But in the meantime my friend and I picked up a FG 4wd yesterday so the build is gonna start today!

FG rims will probobly mess up the handling of your Elcon.

Hope the weather now improves, so we can see some dirt on that alloy!
couple of questions, are they the standard EM side pods or upgraded items?
One picture shows fuel tank with pipe outlet near engine, and others with twin pipe outlets and T piece, which one works best?
My 1 year old twin outlet tank split over the winter, but I was sent a new replacement with single trio outlet under waraunty
all the best from the UK,

It may but I think it will be good to try out new choices. I also just got the Elcon Quartz tires and all I can saw it WOW!!! Very nice, they are the only tire I ever had that smells like rubber. Opened a package of them and the whole basement smells like a tire store!!

My side pods are stock. I just painted then and used a plastic white strip along the bolts to keep it from cracking under abuse.
The T-piece is an upgrade they made down the road. I think it's supposed to prevent gas from spilling when it's upside down. I have the parts when mine came in but the tank wasn't drilled so I just did it myself after seeing what and where to do this.

It handles amazing!! I'll have to try out all my wheels and see how they work. Most of my FG or MCD wheels will make it wider. Plus I have a new set of the Elcon quartz tires which are better than any tires I've seen before. They smell like real rubber!!

I am very curious as to how you find the difference between all the different tires. Sounds like a great testing session!
SELWA
03-02-2009, 04:20 PM
Each tire has different situations. I find soft tires work the best on grass. They let you slide just enough. The KCR/MCD tractor tires work well for all around fun. Large diameter which works on grass, dirt and pavement. I also have a few different spikes from KCR. AK Zip (Alex) mentioned that I may need to drill a bit of the rim for the elcon so that I can get more threading. I noticed this yesterday when I tried them. Small price to pay since I have several to choose from.

Well its spring time and the snow is starting to melt away.
last week my fingers started to itch and i hade to get the Cleon ready for a test drive.
so it started with oridering one Multiplex Rhibo for the teering duties and a hitec ha5985MG servo for the air breaks the saem type of servo sitts on the throtel and rear break.
the it was time to eventualy finnish that engien project. i was planing to use a 27,2 race ported cylinder kit from O´Neill bros but changed my minde. i got sick and tired of those "fabrick ported engines and cylinders. ended up tearing the engine down. switchen back to the original Crank and mounted som ceramic bearings. then i t was time for the cylinder. it ended up with som massiv port work doen to the intak, transfer end exhaust ports.
i ditched the cylinder gasket and sealed it with som high temp gasket cement i usualy use at work ( I work as a Car mecanic) the i matched the intake manifold to the intake port, gaskets and to the walbro wt771 card, and matched the exhaust prot to the exhaust header and gasket
hopfully i can blow the doors off my friends cars with that engine.
i am in th emiddel of selling my appartment and buying a new house.
by next week i will be ready with the woork i have been doing in the appartment and then i will have som exstra time during easter to take mye precious car out for it´s first drive

The best place I found to get good strong decals are from motorcycle shops. The Monster decal were from Bobs Cycle. Nice big sheet perfect for the size of the buggy.

But I would have to order them and that will take some time to get here, and their not cheap $$$$. So of to the motorcycle shop it is thanks!!!

I suppose the upside of buying a cleon is simply spending money of engine/electronics instead of body and chassis as that is already all alloy- looks great.
Enjoy!

That's good to know Joe. What tire rim options are there for the Cleon?
SELWA
04-13-2009, 02:58 AM
You can chose any tires for the Elcon as long as they are from Europe. The Elcon rims allow you to be within the 480mm legal limit there. 520mm is what I get when I use other rims. You can use any FG, Lauterbacher, Harm and KCR rims. There are many tires styles to chose from.
One thing I did notice is that if I try to use the Elcon rims on a FG square I'd have to file down the angles a bit for it to go on. But then the width of a FG would be much more narrower.
Tomorrow I'll try out the new Elcon Quartz tires I have mounted on Elcon rims.
