When can we expect to get our hands on those h compound rears and fronts. Plus when can we expect some better tires period.

H compound on the rear is going to cause a lot of squirreliness due to the decrease in traction. Unless you're going for a drift Baja. :p
As for the front tires, if you want to take off a bit of oversteer, we've got the h compound for those (Just released this month).

They're out of stock right now, but shops have probably already put them on order.
Hope that helps.

how about medium or soft compound but with bigger tread like dirt hawk or moab

What about a medium for the rears? Not too hard, but soft enough to bite!

How about rears, that won't annihilate after 2 tanks? ;)

Worry about the grip or compounds later. Just a thought. :)

This is what decently designed/build RC car tires should be able to take. JMHO.

I drove over an hour and a half.
I know that if tires have spikes on them, they wear fast on tarmac. These haven't, so comparison against baja's original tires is not fair at some levels. It doesn't change the fact that I'll break baja's original tires after 2-3 tanks where I drive. (not all people drive on grass or in Sahara you know) I drive on loose sand. There's also some rough gravel.
My receiver battery was almost dead when we shot this vid. So if my driving looks stupid and clumsy, it's no ALL my fault.. :D
This is just a heads up for those people who think that it's ok to make 1/5 RC car tires out of surgical cloves..
Last weekend those tires turned into their 30th tank. At the moment they look like this:

Bajas are for sand hence the name Baja :) People I think forget it isn't designed for dragging through rocks.

You're joking... right???
I don't remember the manual OR HPI's website instructing me to ONLY run on sand.
All most of us want are rear tires that will last more than ONE DAY of bashing around!!!

Is is a buggy with the name Baja on it :) You wouldn't buy a Savage for for the intention of street racing would you?
Those who have run 2wd buggies understand tire wear
I like to elude to racing 2wd - 1/10 scale buggies, tires never lasted more than a day. I think those who have only owned Monster trucks or stuff since the 4wd craze expect more and are disappointed. Hostile is making a very nice tire that has been said to be very durable and good for all surfaces..

I raced 1/10 and my tires lasted long then the baja and 1/10 tires cost peanuts.
thank god Hostile is listening to the consumer.
but many of us thing that the problem should be adressed the makers of baja.
if hostile and hpi where to compete (tire war) we the consumer would benefit from that.
So Hpi are you going to step up to the plate and take a swing at it?;)

These are what I'm going to use in near future. :) Hörmann Jumbo's H-compound on Elcon wheels for rear. And for front also Elcon wheels and FG 6410 H-compound tires. (same pattern as Jumbo's) Fronts are still waiting for inserts but you'll get the picture.. :)

I guarantee that these will NOT rip from sidewalls! :D

HPI has several hundred things at anyone one time to work on.
Maybe they will come out with a tire more offroad oriented with a bit of tread on the side wall, that would surely save ripping of the tire.

What comes to tires as general, I can't stop amazing that a small company like Hostile can desigin, and start producing decent tires for baja in very short time.
I would understand if HPI people were all too dumb to understand anything about tires.. But they CAN make tires! I have Sandbusters for baja and I have punished them beyond belief! I've driven them in conditions for they are really not designed. Hard gravel etc. Nothing has ripped, no problems. The paddles are just gradually wearing down, as they should IMO.
This puts Dirtbusters in even more odd light.. Of course people can twist arms that they are intended for soft sand only.... (I agree with one of the previous posters that if this is the case it should have been mentioned on the box)
NO! Paddles are intended for sand! And it cannot be news to anybody, that not everyone has Sahara on their backyard... Baja's will be driven where ever there's big enough space for it.
Taken the situation and HPI deafening silence about tire issue, I cannot draw any other conclusion, but they are not interested what customers want. At all. People have been ranting about rear tires well over a year now. No news from HPI.
Thank goodness we have Hostile! :) I ordered Hörmann tires, because Hostile is just starting up their production and I was in hurry with my tires. Hörmanns are a safe bet though.

My first R/C car was a Tamiya Rough rider from the late '70's, probably before you were even born!
Out of the 15 or so vehicles i've owned since then, including the SEVEN I now own, I have yet to own a tire that performed worse than the Dirtbuster. and , yes that includes tires for 2wd buggies, 2wd trucks, rally cars, on road cars, monster trucks, 1/8th scale buggies, 4wd 1/10th trucks, mini's, and my Baja.
Oh... by the way, I think there are rocks on the Baja 500/1000 course as well as sand and mud.
As for the HPI tires... they do say DIRTBUSTERS on them... don't they???

I think it a money question.
in the 40's and 50' they built thing that lasted and they didnt tonnes of money but they could look their customers in the eye and says"that a thought product you have my word on it" it was a question of pride!
now they make thing that dont last because its a question of money!
the faster the burn the faster the you buy!
now that hostile is making some im sure that hpi will follow because its a question of money, somebody else is making some so we might as well move because they are getting all the profit.

I might, but i'd put street tread tires on it first though. Thats why it should be safe to use DIRTBUSTERS for running a Baja on DIRT!!!

I think that if HPI thinks that they'll make nice money selling tires that won't last, they are glimbing to the tree arse first. (like we say in Finland)
I could live with the crappy quality if at least the price was right. I know that in the states everything is cheaper, but up here we have to pay 32€ per pair of Dirts. That's about 44 bucks a pair.. If the price was 7 bucks a pair, I could understand it. Because that what's they're worth of..
It cannot all be about the money, since I hear good feedback about the sandpaddles and tarmacs. If it was ALL about the money, they should be s**t too. With Dirts I cannot avoid the thought that nobody just couldn't be bothered with them.
HPI can bring out all the bulkier front a-arms and stuff. Nice! But that's not what's really wrong with the bug. Just my 2 cents.
But I have a way to cope with these tires. I just don't buy them.

I have to agree. HPI kinda dropped the ball on the stock tires. It is one of the most important parts of the Baja, and they can't stand up to the power of the stock motor, let alone an upgraded one. It's a shame there aren't more choices out there for tires. I'm getting a set from Hostile in a few weeks.

I can kind of see why Robert (I think he's the owner) would do this. If he can make molds, and presumably parts, better than or at least comparable to the parts HPI or other manufacturers produce, he can sell them through his own store and cut out the middle man.....the products sell for less than they would if he sold to distributors and he can have a little higher profit margin.
Either way, I love Hostile, I haven't bought anything for the Baja at any other place. The prices are cheaper than DDM and I have always taken advantage of the free shipping on US order over $50!
